“Friendly Rivalry” Oh Woo-ri Confidently Performed 19+ Masturbation Scene “Not Embarrassed at All”
On March 13, actress Oh Woo-ri, who appeared in STUDIO X+U’s drama “Friendly Rivalry“, was interviewed at the Ten Asia office in Jung-gu, Seoul. When asked about her thoughts on performing a daring masturbation scene in the drama, she responded with the statement above.
In “Friendly Rivalry”, Oh Woo-ri played Choi Kyung, a character who constantly ranks second, always falling behind Yoo Je-yi. Though she appears to be the model student, she harbors deep-seated inferiority and a dual personality. Oh Woo-ri has previously appeared in Netflix’s “A Killer Paradox” (2024) and the film “I, the Executioner” (2024).
Reflecting on the drama’s conclusion, Oh Woo-ri said, “I received more love than I expected. I’m still in disbelief. I even checked open chat rooms on Naver and read blog reviews. I was proud that viewers appreciated not only the lead actors but also the supporting cast.”
She focused on portraying Choi Kyung’s duality. “On the surface, Kyung appears sharp and rough, but deep down, she has a vulnerable side. Her inferiority complex drives her actions, but at heart, she’s righteous and kind. I wanted to show that, despite her contradictions, these qualities are all part of who she is.”
Oh Woo-ri also shared her experience working with the lead actors. She had a fierce rivalry on screen with Yoo Je-yi (Hyeri) and described Hyeri’s real-life personality as nurturing. “She’s like a mother bird taking care of baby birds. Whenever we were struggling, she looked after us like a leader. In the drama, Je-yi is charismatic, and Hyeri is naturally like that too. She gave me a lot of acting advice.”
Regarding Chung Su-bin, who played Woo Seul-gi, Oh Woo-ri described her as “a healing presence” on set. “She constantly gave compliments and encouragement. She’d say things like, ‘Sis, you’re doing great. How can you even have doubts when you’re this good?’ It gave me so much strength.”
In one scene, Oh Woo-ri’s character is caught masturbating at school after hours and inadvertently witnesses a sexual encounter between Woo Do-hyuk (Woo Seul-gi’s father) and Yoo Je-na (Yoo Je-yi’s sister). She admitted to initial concerns about the scene but ultimately performed it with professionalism. “I was worried before filming, but once we started, I wasn’t embarrassed at all. The director knew that making a big deal out of it would only add pressure, so they reassured me that it was just acting. During rehearsals, everyone except the cinematographer cleared the set to help me focus.”
Another scene that caught attention was the intense bathtub kiss between Chung Su-bin and Hyeri. Chung Su-bin previously revealed in an interview that Oh Woo-ri and Kang Hye-won were shocked when they saw the scene. Oh Woo-ri explained, “We didn’t expect it to look that beautiful. They genuinely looked like lovers in love, and I was in awe. I even thought they could have shown more affectionate moments because their chemistry was so good.”
